A Tale of 2 cycles

When my son was 3 and my daughter was 2, they were getting better at riding their tricycles and I was wondering if I should get them bi-cycles with training wheels. Within that week , as I was throwing out the trash I saw a red 20 inch boy's cycle in the dumpster. I took it out- it was perfect except that the rear axel was broken. I got a replacement from amazon for 20 dollars and its lasted us 2 years now. I then started looking at dumpsters more closely as I walked and got my daughters sea-princes 12 inch bike the next week! this one needed just a 3 dollar tube. Today as i see my children almost starting to cycle without the wheels- I am proud that not only did I save 2 cycles from the landfill, not only will both my kids learn to cycle (and re-cycle) from them---- but next year- the cycles are going to the thrift store- so that other kids can use them. (I could have sold them for a few dollars too- but I got them for free- and I made them better cycles- and now someone else should have them)

If we will not stop buying chinese goods- atleast we should use them as long as we can. The chinese will just love americans to buy their stuff, throw it away and buy more.

An economical and environmental win win for me.
