The Lazy Man

Humans are lazy.
1. why start walking on 2 legs? because two leg walking is the most efficient way to cover a given distance. Infact, the mammal who spends the least energy- per kg- to move, is the kangaroo- for the same reason. 4 legs are fast- try chasing a squirrel- but 2 legs are good for the lazy man.
2. why be a omnivore? Give a caveman a mound of termites and a deer 50 yards away and he will eat termites. Give him a dead pig or a wild boar and he will turn scavenger- the lazy opportunist.
3. why build a fire? so that you dont have to stand guard, dont have to eat huge amounts of calories (work) to keep warm and dont stand guard and dont spend body fuel in digesting tough proteins.
4. why invent the wheel? because you dont even want to carry the deer you just killed back to your family- unless you find a way to do it with less energy. same with computers, cycles, cars- the taming of animals.
5. why war? because once defeated you get others to do your work and get all their resources for yourself.
6. Why traps? why bow and arrow or the spear? why any tools? - laziness. Have you ever seen a bushman hunt? he will walk (not run) behind a animal for 5 hours. The sweat glands on humans mean that they can cool down in the midday sun while the animal cant. The exhausted animal gets a heat stroke and just dies there- no fighting, no running- the most energy efficient way to hunt down any animal.
7. why marriage and social hierarchy? have you seen how much energy a monkey spends fighting for the right to mate or eat the best fruit or live in the best spot on the tree?
8. Why farm? have chicken and goats and fish ponds?

Our lazy attitude conserved our energy and forced our mind to create tools to make us energy efficient at the same time. The best use of the least possible amount of energy allowed us to flourish in times when energy was not readily available. This survival benefit has made us so successful that it is now the cause of our decay. In these times , most of us use very little energy while having lots (of food). And like good cavemen we take every extra calorie and conserve it as fat for use in future times of need. Even in our blood vessels. Somebody pass a law- no restaurant can serve any meal > 500 calories to anyone. >350 calories will mean extra fat tax.
