Self Inflicted Poverty

Why live outside 6 months of the year?

1. My highest electricity bill in summer is 30 dollars (its less than 100 dollars in winter but thats another topic)---- so its not just environmental-- its economical.
2. Brings the family closer as we do live in a 8 feet by 20 feet space.
3. makes the kids learn that in reality all we need in life is a small fridge , small heater, a sleeping bag, 1 bulb, clothes, soap ,toothbrush , a reliable small car and a smart phone to survive and flourish . Add a washing machine and a laptop and a hot shower and you are now rich when compared to a average human being in this world!!!
4. cannot do this without team work and it develops a character which is patient, helpful and promotes sharing or resources--- so on friday everyone wants to watch a movie-- you have to build consensus and you have to make sacrifices.
5. kids have fun.
6. you sleep better at camp- sleep early, wake up early and there is nothing as soothing as the voice of crickets and the rain on canvas.
7. you feel good about how you are not negatively impacting the environment ---- of course, this is true only when camping is done right - recycle, avoid plastics, collect deadwood for fire etc.

All our possessions fit into this 8 x 10 trailer that opens to 8 x 20 feet.
This includes 3 months of essential survival supplies including survival meals

 The view is awesome

friday night is movie night on laptop- we do not have TV (10 years now)

Everyone wakes up happy when you sleep outside - I am always amazed at that
the children are not needy and dont get bored without TV.
They read a lot as they cannot watch TV and participate in spelling bee and geography Bee without any pressure from us.
their friends are always welcome
