I was into 4 miles into my trek when my old and broken shoes started biting. By mile6 I had a blister . By mile 8 - it was bleeding.
Right then I came across stagnant water - not deep at all- but with mosquitoe larvae in it.
Although the best fishing spots were beyond this pool of water- I did not dare to cross it.
A small cut and dirty water= infection - and the next morning you wake up dehydrated, delirius, septic.
In a world without anti-biotics- its that easy to trigger the chain of unfortunate events leading to your untimely death.
In the wild , death does not come from tigers and bears but from insects, virus and bacteria. I know my limitations- and you should know yours.
returning back limping, taking time to slow down, actually listening to nature and practicing the hunters vision- I caught 3 crabs with nothing but my cap. And as I was figuring a way to transport them live- a 10 pound turtle walks into my path.
Patience, priority, planning and pure luck.
Today, i leave my shoes behind--- having learnt the invaluable lesson that gear matters and that in some relationships (with my shoes- skydiving together and all that) love / attachment/ loyalty can kill.
In post-armageddon- who knows what more I will leave behind. But many people will be left behind. Because when a man and a woman survive- humanity still has a chance. And survival of the self becomes of utmost importance- and any relationships left - are those which help in survival.
Yesterday was the best day I had with nature- I followed all my rules and I was rewarded handsomely.
Just like the Tao-
be like water- it flows effortlessly from a higher ground to lower ground- and in this effortless flow it carves grand canyons through hard rock
