The rules of survival are simple (because-after all- survival is basic)
you can expect to survive 3 minutes without air, 3 hours without shelter, 3 days without water and 3 weeks without food.
May be what I can add is- 3 months without sustainable living.(example- winter comes and you dont have stored food or seeds to sow next year)
Right now I can buy some cheap land in the thar desert (near jaiselmer) and live happily because even though there is no food or water available locally- i can buy bottled water, get a tanker to bring bath water and eat from a super-market.
In the sustainable past - Thar's population was self limited because of lack of vast food or water resources.
SO WHAT? THIS IS A GOOD THING , RIGHT?
no, because to get water to the desert - I am not just taking water from another population, but I am doing so more than the natural environment of that community can replenish.
So, now , at some time - water will run out in 2 places at once!
This thing is happening across many cities, in many countries, in many continents at the same time.
So IN THIS SEEMINGLY ABUNDANCE OF WATER IS HIDDEN THE WORST WATER CRISES IN THE WORLD'S HISTORY
when will I start killing for water- 3 days? when my son/daughter starts crying of thirst? when my wife's tounge is so swollen and dry its obstructing her airway?
Maybe I wont have to kill, maybe someone will get me first- because even a bottle of water will become more valuable than anything else at that moment (life itself).
OR
I could start working today to prevent this. like gandhi made his own salt- I could make my own water.
DESIGNATED POPULATION LIMITS- calculate how much sustainable/re-plenishable water and food resources a given area has. then calculate the population it can support. If the current human population there exceeds this LIMIT- with education and a system of economic carrot and sticks - get the population to sustainable limits in 1-2 generations. AN INITIAL STEP COULD BE MIGRATING FAMILIES FROM areas where there are no resources to one where the resources exceed the population.
the world belongs to all humans- and all are screwing it together. i think this needs to change asap.
